Seaside cottages for families with children: what to look for

A playground in sight, no busy road on the way to the beach, a kitchenette and air conditioning — what matters on a seaside holiday with small children.

Slide and swings on the playground by the cottages in Sarbinowo

Seaside cottages for families all look alike in the listings. The difference shows up on site: can you see the playground from the terrace, do you have to cross a main road to reach the beach, can you cook a proper meal in the cottage, and can you sleep in it during a heatwave? Here is our list.

1. A playground you can see from the terrace

Sunrise has two: one in front of the two-storey cottages, the other with swings and a slide in front of the Standard Plus bungalows. Both in sight of the terraces, on fenced grounds. The child plays, the parent drinks coffee — and sees everything.

2. A way to the beach without a road

350 metres, about five minutes' walk with a pushchair. On the way a promenade with ice cream, not a busy street. With a distance like that you go to the beach two or three times a day, and a nap in the cottage does not mean the end of the day by the sea. Sun loungers and a windbreak are waiting in every unit — nothing to carry.

3. Your own kitchen and fridge

A kitchenette in every unit: breakfast at seven, soup for the little one, milk in the fridge. The restaurants on the promenade are for the evening, when you feel like it, not out of necessity.

4. Air conditioning with heating

It cools in July and heats in September and during winter breaks. The children sleep and the cottage does not turn into a greenhouse after a hot day.

5. Room for the whole family

The two-storey cottages D1–D4 are for 4–6 people, and up to 8 by arrangement — with grandparents, a nanny or another family. Two bedrooms upstairs (each with a double and a single bed), living room downstairs: the children sleep, the adults still have an evening. For toddlers we have cots, high chairs and baby baths — just say so when booking.

6. Quiet and safety

Fenced grounds, free parking right behind the cottages (no carrying luggage across half the village), brick barbecues in front of the cottages and quiet hours 22:00–7:00. Sarbinowo is calmer than Mielno, and the beach — despite its popularity — is wide enough that there is always room for a blanket.
